Our mission is to create and facilitate innovative ways to encourage and support healthy, positive aging for people in Lunenburg and Queens Counties.
The Flourish Family Wellbeing Society was created to bring the elements of positive aging to Bridgewater Nova Scotia via a new seniors centre. The underlying philosophy is based on two evidence-based concepts; Optimal Aging, as described by the Fountain of Health and developed by Dr. Kerri-Leigh Cassidy at Dalhousie University. This material is now being researched across the country. The second primary push comes from Cathy Carmody who promoted the idea of a new stage of life called ‘Novescence’, whereby people over 60 years of age are beginning new careers and activities.
Using these models, the Flourish Wellbeing Society was created to increase people's understanding, appreciation and application of positive aging. It has become the goal of this organization to create an affordable centre for seniors which promotes the concepts of positive aging through an activity-based approach.
